Film Weavings
In my film weavings I’m exploring ways of privatizing moments, only allowing glimpses of every other frame. I use film I’ve shot, discarded, and found, playing around with colour, texture, and film format. I’m also drawn to films void of imagery, either a failed attempt to capture or film leader meant to protect, identify and feed the film into the projector. I am contemplating how the storage of memories simultaneously protects, as well as withholds the image's purpose of being viewed. I want to deconstruct and recontextualize ways of archiving, placing strips of film into a readily available form, while also withholding every other frame, making each image more precious. My weavings are layering together contradictory elements of discovery and censorship, care and destruction, and comfort and agitation. Interlacing connections between the soft texture of the fabric and stiff material of film.
